Learn how to avoid the most common plumbing problems
At West Yorks Plumbing we have over 20 years experience in the plumbing trade and have seen all matter of plumbing problems. However, there are some problems that seem to rear their ugly head more frequently than others.
So, we decided to put together a quick guide on how to deal with some of the most common plumbing problems.
Watch what you flush
Clogged toilets are one the most common problems a plumber will encounter. All to often people will flush things they shouldn’t down the toilet which results in a blockage. Commonly flushed items include; nappies, sanitary towels, cotton buds and kitchen roll. These items are regularly flushed by an alarming number of people.
If you or someone in your home is guilty of regularly flushing any of the aforementioned items then a potential fix is quite simple. Firstly, get a small bin for the toilet so you can dispose of anything you may be tempted to flush when you know you shouldn’t and secondly keep a plunger close by just in case!
Regularly clean your shower/bath drain
A slow draining sink or bath is a common sign of a blockage and clogged shower/bath drains are an extremely common plumbing problem. Accumulated soap residue and a build up of hair can easily block your drain if it’s not regularly cleaned.
A drain catcher can help prevent the problem and a regular clean is highly recommended. Professional cleaning via qualified plumbers such as ourselves is advised, however, you can find drain cleaner in most supermarkets and DIY shops. Alternatively, you can use a less toxic combination of vinegar and baking soda to help clean out any drains in your home.
Freshen up your waste disposal
Waste disposal units are often misused and as a result can end up witha number of problems. One common issue is that they give off a repulsive odour. This can happen for a number of reasons but most commonly occurs when there is a build up of grease. Grease should never be poured down your waste disposal yet it regularly is. The grease solidifies in the drain causing a horrible odour and when other bits of food get caught in there it only makes things worse.
Again there are a number of cleaners available in supermarkets, but professional cleaning via qualified plumbers such as ourselves is advised and there are also a number of easy fixes you can try with common household items. For example; baking soda and vinegar is a great cleaner, salt and ice down also work well as do citrus fruit peels and remnants.
Don’t let the taps drip
A dripping tap is one of the most ignored plumbing problems in the home. It’s often ignored, which is both a waste of water and hard earned money as it adds to your bill. It can also lead to further problems if it’s not dealt with in a timely manner. If you have a dripping tap in your home call a local plumber and get it fixed sooner rather than later.
Beware of running toilets
A running toilet wastes an incredible amount of water and can add a hefty amount to any water bill. As with running taps it is a problem that is best tackled as soon as you notice it with the help of a local plumber.
If you are experiencing any of these problems and need a local plumber in Bradford or her surrounding areas then don’t hesitate to call us today.
